Interview with Donovan Fox (Defenestrated Treachery)

1. How have you been?

I’ve been good, though my life’s been pretty uneventful other than the slam shit.


2. What are you currently listening to that you would recommend?

I’ve been spinning some classic slam albums like Rationing The Sacred Human Remains by Parasitic Ejaculation and Uterovaginal Insertions of Extirpated Anomalies by Cephalotripsy. A newer band I’ve been listening to is Cranioclast, an oldschool deathcore style project that my friend has. He also has a slam project called Nephrostomy that DT is actually getting a feature on! We recorded our feature a few days ago, actually. 



3. You have a 4-way split coming out in January. Are there any plans for a solo EP/album?

Yes actually, we’ve been waiting on our homie Alex from Inherited Suffering Records to finish mixing up our full length. We’ve worked so hard on this album and it actually took us a year. The dudes in DT are pretty eager to hear the finished product, including me. Don’t know when the initial release date will be but he’s been on it for months now so expect soon.


4. Other than that what are your musical plans for the future?

Ben and I are gonna lock in and work on our Budvayne EP and I’m gonna get a new interface to record some Toiletectomy. And Colonial Slab, the dudes in that project are probably some of the most efficient musicians i’ve ever worked with.


5. What is your favorite piece of art you have produced that has a special place in your heart?

This is super unrelated to slam, but I have a shitty soundcloud project called “Snail Penis” – a  satire project. I’ve been uploading songs under this name since sophomore year of highschool, a bunch of trap songs, cloud rap, alternative rock, butt rock, black metal. I‘ve probably made fun of every genre with this project. But the one that wins a special place in my heart is my song “Spongebop”. It’s a ridiculously catchy bubbly trap song and I love it.



6. Can you tell us a fun fact related to your music that we may not know?

A good fun fact about me is I love ducks. I collect various duck items. Especially stuffed animals and plushes. I just got a new one from the mall. He’s wearing scuba diving gear. So a good gift idea for me would be brutal merchandise or duck related merchandise.


7. What is the craziest shit that ever happened to you related to the band?

Back before the band switched names and we were still Goretopsy, Ben and I were recording songs over video chat for our never-released album “Organic Disfigurement” and Ben knocked his desk that had a knife on top. Shit straight impaled his leg and he had to go to the ER.


8. What are your five desert island picks and biggest inspirations?

Devourment - Molesting the Decapitated, Cephalotripsy - Uterovaginal Insertion of Extirpated Anomalies, Waking the Cadaver - Real Life Death, Silverstein - When Broken is Easily Fixed, Dying Fetus - Killing on Adrenaline.


9. Alien invasion or zombie apocalypse?

Alien invasion seems cool just to switch it up, but realistically I HAVE to go with zombie apocalypse. Naturally I know too much about zombies.

1. How have you been?  Not good at all, it’s been a very shit year so far with multiple deaths of people I loved very much, but I’d rather not discuss it.
