Interview with Tomm Swasthik (Acranius)
1: How did you guys get together as a band?
I got in the in the summer of '12. Lars and Bjoern kinda founded the band. Haaki came later and they were still looking for a vocalist. We were close friends before, so they asked me.
2: You released your first full-length in May. How do you feel about it?
That was fucking awesome. I'm kinda new in that genre, so I was pretty much overwhelmed by the fans' hype, there were so many kids looking forward to this album. To actually see all the feedback about the album on the web was a good feeling.
3: What are your future plans/ambitions? In Acranius, we're about to write new songs, coming up with a new album for '14. Also, I’m working on an other project, The Oklahoma Kid. It's kinda modern progressive metal and we are dropping an EP in spring next year.
4: Who/what inspires you? There are a lot of persons I look up to. But I mostly try not to follow any lifestyles or what people try to tell me, like my mother did some years ago, fortunately she gave up. In music, there’s a lot of stuff that inspires me. Mostly lyrically, cause I'm much into rap, where I enjoy either cheesy ghetto lyrics or marvellous ones, like DOOM for example.
5: Is there a song you are most proud of writing? It's not like I'm proud of a song in a whole. More the completed work of everyone involved. In the beginning of writing, I'm often afraid that someone doesn't like the song. But in the end, it mostly comes out well and everyone in the band like the stuff we wrote.
6: Have you encountered the "this music is shit" attitude? Oh, yeah, of course. There is a lot of hate on us cause people care too much about genres and all that shit. I don't care about them, I just wanna have as much fun as I can.
7: One band you'd tour the world with?
Cerebral Incubation. I've met Mark in Vegas and instantly stayed at his place for some days, he's one of the nicest dudes around there.
8: What's the best gig you ever played? I've played plenty of "good" gigs… There has never been a perfect one. But I guess one of the best ones was the Berlin Deathfest gig.
9: If someone told you that slam is crap and you're a disgusting pig for liking it, what would you reply with? I can totally understand why people are not able to like this genre. It’s even hard with more "soft" metal for the most.
10: Craziest shit that ever happened to you? (Related to the band) There hasn't been something like a crazy situation… But we had a really nice time in the US. To tour the West Coast was awesome.
11: Say anything you want to your fans. Be open-minded, don't hate on stuff other people put their hearts and love into. Stay positive. Support the shit you like.
