Interview with Tristan Benintendi (Buttholectomy)
1. How have you been?
Super good! We got a lot on our plate as far as be releases and shows go, so we’re staying busy.
2. What are you currently listening to that you would recommend?
Highly recommend checking out Carniceria, Dead Low, Spore, Cerebral Effusion and Fentacart! Keep an eye out for @potato.slam.
3. You recently released your debut album. How has the response been and how do you feel about it?
The response was much better than we could have imagined. We got a lot of feedback as far as the sound goes, so we’re making some adjustments to make our sound bigger, and you best believe the riffs are gonna be more brutal than ever!
4. What are your musical plans for the future?
We’re currently working on a couple of splits and we have an EP getting finished up currently. We have some pretty cool concepts for future albums as well.
5. How did the name Buttholectomy come to be?
Sawyer came up with the ridiculous name BUTTHOLECTOMY truthfully because it’s funny and it just happened to stick.
6. Do your families/relatives know about the band name? Any funny reactions?
Our families all kind of think it’s goofy and don’t really understand it, but they’re all very supportive of it! It got my dad to spawn new song names and side project concepts.
7. What is your favorite piece of art you have produced that has a special place in your heart?
Our new Armageddon Steve graphic done by Karmavoid! Steve was a dear friend of ours so we pay homage to him through our music and portraying him in our art. He’s within all of us.
8. Can you tell us a fun fact related to your music that we may not know?
Buttholectomy started as a one man band, being just sawyer. Now we’re a 5-piece featuring members from the bands RippedOut and Herniatic Extraction.
9. What is the craziest shit that ever happened to you related to the band?
For starters, we’re playing gulf coast fest this weekend. We never thought that our brain rot butthole-themed music would ever get us to a place where we’d be playing with our favorite bands. But overall finding a group of dudes over the internet that work so well together as friends and as a band is probably the craziest thing that’s happened to us this far.
10. What is your favorite slam sample?
Intro sample to Asphalt Exfoliation by Boltcutter! A favorite of one of our own songs would be the intro sample to Beaten, Pegged & Dismembered.
11. Dream tour line-up and destination?
Dream tour line-up would be Carniceria, Corpse Pile, Boltcutter, PeelingFlesh.
12. Alien invasion or zombie apocalypse?
Zombie Apocalypse would be way cooler. You could try and fight them off and have a chance to survive. Aliens would take us out so fast we wouldn’t stand a chance.
13. If there’s anything you’d like to add, feel free to.
Shout-out Arizona slam scene, shout-out Ernie & Triston, shout-out Frog Mallet for helping us get on the map, shout-out Armageddon Steve. Gulf coast death fest 3/15, NEDM FEST 6/27. New EP soon, split with SPORE soon.
