Interview with Jason Lambert (Human Barbecue)

1. How have you been?

I have been good, thank you! Thanks for doing this.

My wife and I are trying to immigrate to Canada. Long and frustrating process, but we are almost at the end of it, so fingers crossed!

2. What are you currently listening to that you would recommend?

I am always listening to a lot of different stuff. I recently went back to that amazing Severed Savior album Servile Insurrection – so hard! I must admit that I’m usually going back to older releases.

There are some killer newer bands around like Chorus Of Demons, Splattered Spine, Corpse Pile, Voracious Contempt… The scene is doing great, but it also feels a bit saturated nowadays. There are so many bands releasing material now that it has become hard to keep track.

3. You released your new album a few months back. How has the response been and how do you feel about it?

The response was pretty good! We have received a lot of good feedback, so it’s always cool. We are having a hard time topping our 2020 album Bloodstained Altars though. Decimated By Barbarity closes the Reality Fade trilogy. I don’t know what is going to happen after that. Much love to Dimitri RF for everything he has done for us over the years!

Hopefully people noticed that the artwork is the giants from Bloodstained Altars and the indigenous from Red Sun Rising fighting… and if they didn’t know, now they do! Also happy to have our good friend Luke from Secreted on a track. Luke also helps me with the lyrics writing process.

4. What are your musical plans for the foreseeable future?

We are working on a surprise with HB. We will announce it in due time, but it is something exciting!

I’m also doing vocals in Putrified J and Neuromoral Dissonance. PJ is on hiatus, but I have a new ND album to release. I’m also running a label named Death Farm Records. This one has been on hiatus after four very busy years (break due to the Canada plan), but the Euro division is almost ready to run it, so it’s almost time to be back!

Trying to stay as busy as possible, as I have been releasing music since 2009 and I don’t plan on stopping.

5. What is your favorite piece of art you have produced that has a special place in your heart?

Bloodstained Altars is pretty badass. Hardest sound we have ever had, hardest tracks, angry vocals… 35 minutes straight to your face!

6. Can you tell us a fun fact related to your music that we may not know?

Hahaha, so this is a good one: I recorded vocals for the first Klysma album Sick a few years ago. I entered the studio and I didn’t know the songs. Recorded everything in one session and two takes max per song.

7. What is the craziest thing that ever happened to you related to the band?

Music-wise, I would say that the craziest thing that happened to me was with Putrified J back in 2011. Just released a digital album, and then Amputated Vein Records from Japan gave me my chance and released my very first physical music under their sublabel Ghastly Music. I will eternally be grateful for the opportunity and everything they have done for my bands, including Human Barbecue.

They released Cannibalistic Flesh Harvest, the album that me and Mats Kraanium did together in 2018. It might not be that crazy to a lot of people, but this is sentimental to me and I will always be proud of it.

8. What are your five desert island picks (music) and biggest inspirations?

Dyscarnate – And So It Came To Pass

Dying Fetus – Reign Supreme

Shattered Realm – Broken Ties… Spoken Lies

Kickback – No Surrender

Arkangel – Hope You Die By Overdose

Pretty hard to only pick five though…

9. What is your favorite slam sample? (Can be from your music, but doesn’t have to)

I have honestly never been a sample fan. I don’t really use any and always thought it was kind of useless – especially very long ones like Mortician does. Much love to the kings Mortician, but yeah…

10. Dream tour line-up and destination?

If it ever happens, I would just like to go on tour anywhere with friends in good bands.

11. Alien invasion or zombie apocalypse?

Zombie apocalypse without a doubt. I’m a huge zombie fan.

12. If there’s anything you’d like to add, feel free to.

Start a band, go to shows, support local bands/labels. Music is the most beautiful thing that this awful humanity came up with – take part!
